UQPWC hosts two “Give it a Go” workshop sessions (also known and Come and Try Days) which allows members of the public and incoming university students to experience strength training and powerlifting. If you are a beginner and wondered how to use the many different machines and free weights, or have always found going to the gym for the first time quite daunting, you’ve come to the right place.
We aim to provide a club which allows everyone in the community to participate in fun and healthy activities. Participating in a Give it a Go session with UQPWC is a great way to get started.
Strength training (which includes the three competition lifts in powerlifting) is a sport that is suitable for all ages and fitness levels to try. We invite you to experience the fun, excitement and camaraderie that our club has to offer. UQPWC works with UQ Sport and the University of Queensland Market Days (or orientation week activities) to provide free Give it a Go powerlifting training sessions to students from any university and members of the public.
Before jumping into strength training we will take you through:
- A safety induction and introduce you to the fundamentals of training
- A light warm up to stretch your muscles and body
- Showcase the specialised equipment in the gym and personal equipment such as belts, knee sleeves and wrist wraps
- Demonstrate the lifts
We provide instructors and gym equipment. All you need to bring is a water bottle, shoes and suitable clothing.
If you miss out on one of our Give it a Go Days please contact the club and arrange to speak with a coach about your specific requirements relating to training (e.g. club membership, apparel, how many days a week you should train, opening times etc.).
